Unlike other companies, who concentrate on one application of memristive devices, our vision is broad and ambitious. Silicon oxide memristive devices are a platform technology. In the near-term they can be used in Resistive Random Access Memories (RRAMs), offering far lower power, significantly faster operation and unparalleled levels of integration compared to existing technologies. In the short-to-medium term they will enable orders of magnitude acceleration of hardware for Machine Learning; they will underpin extremely power-efficient distributed intelligence for the Internet of Things; they will open up new possibilities for reconfigurable electronics. In the longer term they will be the enabling technology for brain-inspired neuromorphic computing – one of the ITRS’s ambitions for the future of computing.
The different requirements of each application mean that a “one-size-fits-all” approach will not work. We will instead provide a portfolio of technologies, each addressing one of the sectors listed above. Our initial offerings will be in Embedded Memory and the Automotive sector, and we will work with partners to develop solutions for more advanced applications, up to and including neuromorphic systems.
